I read this multiple times, what a beautiful piece of writing. Even without naming that thing you’re describing, you have captured it in its entirety. The “something fierce” rings true on such a deep level, yet it feels as though to consciously acknowledge that part of oneself would be to “revel in one’s hawkishness”—as if it requires one’s acknowledgment in any way. So, thank you for putting into words this unnamable, untamable thing.
And you are right, a something-fierce moment is indeed coming up in the next (final) chapter, although I never thought of it like that, and I could never describe it as eloquently.
